How Much Does It Cost to Promote a YouTube Video With Google Ads?
You don't pay a flat fee for a YouTube ad. You set a budget, Google runs an auction, and with view-based bidding you're charged when someone actually watches. In our campaigns, a view costs about $0.01 to $0.03 in the US or UK and under $0.002 in lower-cost countries, so the same $100 can buy a few thousand views or more than fifty thousand. Here's how the math works.
- With view-based bidding you pay per view: for skippable ads, after 30 seconds, the whole ad, or a click.
- In our campaigns, US and UK views cost about $0.01–$0.03 each; lower-cost countries cost under $0.002.
- Divide your budget by the cost per view to estimate views, and expect variation by video and targeting.
- Google suggests at least $100 for a Promote campaign, though one can start from $5.
How YouTube ad pricing works
YouTube ads are sold through Google Ads in an auction. There's no rate card: the price of a view depends on how many other advertisers want the same viewers at the same moment. With view-based bidding you aren't charged for the ad simply being shown, only for a view. Google counts a view differently by format:
- Skippable in-stream ads (before or during other videos): after 30 seconds of watching, or the whole ad if it's shorter, or a click.
- In-feed ads (in search results and next to videos): when someone clicks the thumbnail, or watches about 10 seconds of autoplay.
- Shorts ads: after 10 seconds, or the whole ad if it's shorter.
What a view costs, by country
The country you target moves the price more than anything else. These are the ranges we see in our own 2026 campaigns, not Google's prices. Google doesn't publish any, and third-party estimates disagree widely.
| Where your viewers are | Typical cost per view | Views per $100 |
|---|---|---|
| US, UK and other high-cost markets | $0.01–$0.03 | about 3,300–10,000 |
| Lower-cost countries | under $0.002 | 50,000+ |
| Worldwide (our campaign report) | about $0.00025 | about 400,000 |
US and UK views cost more because more advertisers compete for them, not because the viewers are more real. A view anywhere is a real person choosing to watch.
A real example
In one worldwide campaign, $891 of ad spend bought 3,599,140 views in Google Ads, about $0.00025 each. YouTube Studio showed 3,584,020 views on the video, 164,270 hours of watch time and 7,381 new subscribers. Worldwide targeting lets Google find views wherever they're cheapest, which is how the average got that low. It's one campaign, not a typical or guaranteed result: the full campaign report shows both sides of the numbers.
What else moves the price
- How narrow your targeting is. A small, specific audience usually costs more per view than a broad one.
- Competition and season. Advertiser demand changes through the year and typically rises around the holidays.
- The ad format. In-stream, in-feed and Shorts ads are priced separately.
- The video itself. A video that people keep watching earns more views from the same budget than one they skip.
Budget math: how many views to expect
Divide your budget by the cost per view. At $0.01–$0.03 per US or UK view:
- $50 buys roughly 1,700–5,000 views.
- $100 buys roughly 3,300–10,000 views.
- $500 buys roughly 17,000–50,000 views.
Treat these as starting estimates. Your own first few days of data will tell you more than any table.
Ways to buy those views
You can use the Promote button in YouTube Studio (Google says a campaign can get results from $5 but recommends at least $100), run Google Ads yourself, or pay a service to run it for you. We compare all three in YouTube Promote vs Google Ads vs a promotion service, and the YouTube advertising cost guide lays out what each option costs. If you'd rather have it done for you, our Starter Push is $49 with the ad spend included.
